Patterned and decorative glass

Maximise light without compromising on privacy

Patterned or decorative glass is simply glass that has been imprinted with a pattern during the manufacturing process. Its main benefit is allowing light to pass through while obscuring whatever lies behind the glass. Patterned glass can be used in doors (including internal doors), windows and panels.

As part of an interior home or office design, patterned glass allows you to divide up a space and add interest to panels without blocking out light. In exterior doors and windows, it allows light to flood in while preserving privacy, with different patterns offering different levels of obscuration.

Frequently asked questions about patterned and decorative glass

  • How are patterns applied to patterned glass?

The pattern is rolled into the glass during the manufacturing process, so the glass is already patterned when the glass arrives ready to cut.

  • What glass pattern should I choose for privacy?

Five levels of obscuration are available, depending on where you plan to use the glass and the level of privacy you need. These range from 1 (low obscuration, for purely decorative glass) to 5 (complete obscuration).

For bathroom windows, we usually recommend a privacy level of 4 or 5, to ensure that nobody can see bathroom users through the patterned glass. The more overlooked your bathroom window, the more important it is to ensure privacy.

If you’re creating an interior glass panel where light levels are crucial and privacy isn’t a concern, we recommend a lower privacy level of 1–3.

  • Do you offer Stippolyte?

Yes, you can order Pilkington Stippolyte patterned glass panels here on our website.
