To round up the year, we’re celebrating trading growth with the success of our online shop, which is proving popular with customers all around the country.
We launched the new online shop in January 2020, offering double glazed units, toughened, float, mirrored and wired glass products, in standard sizes that customers could easily order themselves.
Our owner James Neill says “At the start of 2020 we wanted to make the business as robust as possible and it seemed the right time to develop a new self-service online shop for customers. No-one could have predicted Covid-19 and the reality of the decision we made in January to add an online shop, has shown to be a really important one”.
During the first national lockdown order levels increased from local customers wanting standard glass items, including double glazed units, toughened, float and greenhouse glass being among the top sellers. What we hadn’t predicted was the level of interest for glass products from customers based all around the country.
After implementing a new online marketing strategy, Norwich Glass Company has seen web traffic increase by 90% from January with the number of customers from outside of the region growing significantly. With recent orders in November accounting for 46% of the online revenue.
“It has been an unprecedented year” Neill comments “we wanted to make sensible decisions on the strategic growth of the business. We didn’t know whether the national interest was just a short term trading phase, due to Covid, or a change in customer behaviour in how they buy glass. Luckily for us it seems to be the latter. We’ve had orders from Carmarthenshire to Northumberland, East Sussex and Oxford and many email and phone enquiries from around the country, asking for our help and advice. I have been really proud of the team at Norwich Glass Company who have worked amazingly hard to introduce new processes and procedures, to offer the best customer service, whilst also ensuring the glass is dispatched securely and arrives safely with the customer”.
As we look forward to 2021, there is a greater focus on developing new product ranges to the online shop and providing online advice on how to prepare for your glass installation, including guidance on measurements and the best glass type to use for your project.
